Feminist imaginings in the face of automation and the “end of work”: De-automating reproduction and reorganizing kinship

Automation is once again raising concerns about the threat it poses to employment. Feminists in 20th century believed that technology could liberate women from undesirable labor. However, historically, industry and automation have not reduced women’s workloads but instead favored unpaid work, flexibility, work overload. Rather than mitigating care ecological crises, technological development has exacerbated them. This raises an important question for feminist theory: should be rejected as a way of reducing workload? To explore this, we analyze classical contemporary contributions theorists on future technology. Using philosophical theoretical methods, our aim examine relationships between these imaginings home, family, design, consumption. article argues analysis must include dimension, considering production human beings strategic purposes. imagine alternative near future, draws Donna Haraway’s making kin, emphasizing defamiliarization refamiliarization social relations, pluralist science, sustainable regeneration life; finally, suggested this analysis, ironic persistence labour post-industrial or post-capitalist era.
